Authorities at Athens Airport have reported no delays or cancellations as over 200,000 people leave the city following the end of the Olympic Games.
As well as international athletes leaving the country, thousands of Athens residents who delayed their summer holidays until after the Games are expected to head for the beach resorts and islands around Greece by the evening of 31 August 2004.
A spokesperson for the airport said that so far there had been no disruption, with strict traffic measures controlling congestion around the airport and only ticket holders being allowed into airport terminals, reports Reuters.
