London's Heathrow Airport faced a luggage backlog after severe weather conditions caused the cancellations of hundreds of flights.

A major storm on 3 August 2004 saw 109 short-haul flights cancelled and 100 more were cancelled on 4 August 2004 after thunderstorms caused air traffic controllers to increase the flight separation distances.

British Airways said that it was freighting baggage to customers in Europe and that all of its flights had returned to normal by 6 August 2004, reported Reuters.
