Flight attendants and labour supporters plan to rally on 14 December to focus attention on what they claim is the need for the US government to stop airline industry management from touching pensions, healthcare and jobs.

The rally will reportedly take place in Washington DC's Lafayette Park, which is located across from the White House. The candlelight march and rally apparently marks the start of a campaign aimed at the Congress and the Bush administration, pressing for an end to practices that allow businesses to remove retirement security and healthcare benefits.

The start is scheduled for 17:15 local time on 14 December at Lafayette Park and the rally includes a march to Freedom Plaza, the organisers said in a press statement.
