Flowers to protect Amsterdam airport

Fields of tulips and daffodils planted around Amsterdam's Schiphol airport will make it safer for aircraft to land, the airport has said.
The scent of tulip and daffodil bulbs is repulsive to mice and other rodents, and without their prey predatory birds would have no reason to visit the area around airport. Therefore the flowers serve as a deterrent to birds, which can be dangerous to aircraft if they get sucked into jet engines during landing or takeoff.
The airport has had approximately three bird strikes for every 10,000 landings and takeoffs, reports Reuters.
