Australian domestic carrier Regional Express announced on Friday (17 December) that it is suspending all flights between Sydney and Canberra because the route is unprofitable.
The airline, known as Rex, will stop flying between Sydney and Canberra on 29 December, said a company spokesperson.
Rex has lost AUD9m on the route since it began offering services between the two cities in August 2002. Another Australian domestic airline, Virgin Blue, scrapped the route in September, and after Rex suspends it flights Qantas will remain the only major airline flying between the two cities, reports The Associated Press.
