A Qantas Airways aircraft is said to have aborted a landing at Australia's Brisbane Airport at the last minute on Friday (13 February).

The Boeing 737 aircraft was carrying 150 passengers from Sydney to Brisbane when the aircraft aborted its landing. Reports suggest that the pilot was forced to apply power to the aircraft engines and "go around" as there was another aircraft on the runway. However, the Australian Transport Safety Bureau has denied that another aircraft was involved.

The safety bureau is expected to examine radar tapes and tapes of conversions to determine what happened; meanwhile Airservices Australia - which handles air traffic control - claims there was no danger of a collision and dismissed reports of a near-miss.
