It has been reported that federal US air marshals have been placed on board passenger flights from Scotland to the US.

A report in the Sunday Mail newspaper claimed that armed marshals have been deployed on a number of flights over the last two weeks after a Continental Airlines flight from Glasgow, Scotland to the US was grounded in a terror alert.

A spokesperson for the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) would not specify which flights air marshals were on for security reasons, but said it was "possible" that guards were on flights departing from Glasgow.
