Thai Airways considers proposals to supply used aircraft

Airline Industry Information, Feb 24, 2004

Thai Airways International has revealed that six foreign companies have expressed an interest in providing it with used aircraft.

Two of the parties are airlines in the United States and Asia, while the rest are financial institutions, according to Thai Airways' president.

The airline recently cancelled plans to purchase seven used Boeing 747-400 aircraft from United Airlines, claiming that the US carrier could not provide them soon enough.

It has now decided that fewer aircraft are needed at the present time, although the number to be acquired has not yet been finalised.

The airline's president said that a decision on whether to lease or buy the aircraft will be made within the next five weeks, reported The Associated Press.
