India's Air Deccan orders Airbus A320 aircraft

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Indian low-cost carrier Air Deccan has placed an order with European aircraft manufacturer Airbus for a number of 180-seat A320 aircraft.

The airline has ordered two new A320s, with an option to purchase another two. The firm order will be delivered by the end of 2005. No financial terms were disclosed but an Airbus spokesperson said that the catalogue price for an A320 aircraft is USD65m.

In addition Air Deccan will take delivery of another five A320 aircraft from July this year, leased through Singapore Aircraft Leasing Enterprise.

At present Air Deccan operates a fleet of seven 48-seat ATR-42-320 turboprop aircraft.
