Woman jailed for smuggling cocaine in Guyana

An Ecuadorean woman has been sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to drug smuggling charges in Guyana.

The 32-year-old woman admitted hiding 4.5 kilograms of cocaine in a false compartment of her suitcase before boarding a flight from Guyana. The woman told police that she had been taking the drugs to Singapore via Barbados and London, reported The Associated Press.

The judge also ordered the woman to pay a fine of USD50.
