Nabire area airport closed following earthquake

An airport in the Nabire district in Indonesia's Papua province was closed on Friday (7 February) after it was damaged during an earthquake.

The airport is said to have sustained cracks after the district was hit by a tremor measuring 6.91 on the Richter scale. A seaport in the area was also damaged, however no information on the damage was available.

The quake reportedly killed 22 people, while injuring 600 others and causing damage to hundreds of houses, reported The Associated Press.
