A man was arrested at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans for attempting to take a loaded handgun onboard an aircraft.

On Sunday (8 February) the 34-year-old was preparing to board a flight for Dallas to catch a connecting flight to Las Vegas. Screeners at the airport reportedly noticed the handgun in the man's carry-on luggage. He is said to have claimed that he was a law enforcement officer and presented false identification.

The man is scheduled to be charged today (9 February) with attempting to board an aircraft with a loaded handgun, which carriers a ten-year federal prison sentence.
