The Libyan prime minister Shokri Ghanem has reportedly urged the US to lift sanctions by 12 May 2004.

Under a compensation agreement for the families of those killed in the 1988 explosion of Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, it reportedly states that if US sanctions are not removed eight months after the signing then the additional USD6m for each family will not be paid.

The families of the 270 people killed in the bombing have already been paid USD4m each under the compensation agreement, reported Reuters.
