Some 1,800 travellers were delayed at Albuquerque International Airport on Sunday (11 July) after a man walked through the exit side of the airport security checkpoint.

The incident prompted officials to rescreen passengers in the area where the breach occurred. Some 18 departing aircraft were delayed by up to two hours, however the man in question managed to board his flight to Salt Lake City without being delayed.

On arrival in Salt Lake City the man was interviewed by the FBI. It was determined that he had passed through security however he went back through the exit to make contact with some relatives before re-entering through the exit.

The FBI will not pursue criminal charges against the man but the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) may pursue civil penalties, The Associated Press reported.
