European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has rejected criticism from its American rival Boeing over aid it receives from European governments.

Airbus said that the state funds it receives add up to little over USD100,000 per aircraft - not enough to give it any kind of advantage over Boeing. The Toulouse-based company also hit back at Boeing by saying that it received indirect funds from the US government for its defence contracts.

Boeing has asked for the US authorities to look into the state aid given to Airbus to help develop its superjumbo aircraft, a rival to Boeing's 7E7 Dreamliner aircraft which was developed from technology invented when Boeing worked on the Joint Strike Fighter with money from the US government, reports Bloomberg.
