New budget airline launched in Singapore

Singapore's latest budget carrier Tiger Airways was launched on Wednesday (21 July) with a business plan aimed at dominating the regional low-cost airline market.
An off-shoot of national carrier Singapore Airlines, Tiger Airways will operate from Singapore's Changi Airport. A spokesperson for the new airline said that it hopes to be fully operational by the end of 2004, flying to between five and ten destinations within four hours of Singapore.
Tiger Airways said that it expects to be profitable within 12 months and will purchase 12 new aircraft by 2006, reported The Associated Press.
