Germany's biggest low-cost airline Hapag-Lloyd Express is to add to the controversy surrounding Coventry Airport in the UK by starting service to Cologne/Bonn airport.

The new service will begin on 1 November 2004 and the airline has stressed that it will be using its quiet Boeing 737-700 aircraft in an attempt to defuse a row between airport bosses and the surrounding residential community.

Businesses in the Coventry region have welcomed the new link, saying that it would open up the area to new economic opportunities. Coventry Airport is owned by Germany's TUI which operates Hapag-Lloyd Express and ThomsonFly which is based at the airport, reports Leamington Spa Today.
