Asia-Pacific airline traffic recovers from 2003 SARS outbreak

Airline Industry Information, July 23, 2004

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Asia-Pacific airlines have bounced back strongly from the 2003 downturn caused by the SARS outbreak, carrying nearly double the number of passengers in June 2004 than in June 2003.

The Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) said that its members had carried 10.3m passengers in June 2004, up by 84% on the same month in 2003.

The AAPA added however that despite the recovery in passenger numbers high fuel prices and competition are having an adverse effect on profit margins, reports Reuters.
