German carrier Lufthansa has reportedly agreed a framework with its trade union, which makes working times and pay talks more flexible in order to cut labour costs.
Under the deal, 40,000 German ground staff would still work 37.5 hours per week, but the 37.5 hours per week would be averaged out over 18 months, allowing for individual longer working weeks without costly overtime payments.
The agreement was reached between the airline and the Verdi union on Friday (11 June). The two parties aim to translate the agreement into a full wage contract by 15 August 2004.
