Bombardier considers constructing 110-seat aircraft

Airline Industry Information, June 2, 2004

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier is expected to reach a decision early next year on whether to build a new 110-seat aircraft.

The company currently makes 50-, 70- and 86-seat regional jets. An aircraft with seating for 110 would result in a high-cost project that would reportedly differ from the company's history of acquiring assets cheaply and carefully adding innovative products.

If the project was approved, the company would likely take up some 35% of the CAD1.5bn to CAD2bn cost of developing the jet. The rest would come from suppliers and investors, and possibly even government, Reuters reported.
