Russian MiG-29 aircraft were scrambled after an unidentified sports aircraft flew unannounced from Mongolia into Russian airspace today (24 June).
Russian air traffic controllers reportedly attempted to communicate with the aircraft, however no contact was made prompting the Air Force to scramble the jets. The aircraft was forced to land at the airport in the city of Chita, east of Moscow.
The aircraft's pilot - who was travelling on a round-the-world voyage - had requested an air corridor but crossed the border more than 12 hours after the time indicated.
