Vietnam has announced that it is to spend USD8bn in constructing its largest international airport in the Dong Nai province.

The airport is designed to handle up to 100m passengers annually and will have four terminals and runways. The new development should ease the workload of Vietnam's current biggest airport Tan Son Nhat International in Ho Chi Minh City.

Construction on the 5,000-hectare site in the town of Long Thanh should start in 2007 with the first runway and terminal scheduled to open in 2011, reports The Associated Press.
