Finnish airline Finnair Plc said on Wednesday (30 June) that it was renewing its fleet by acquiring 76-seat Embraer 170 jet aircrafts, and its subsidiary Finnair Aircraft Finance Ltd had signed an agreement with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer on a firm order of 12 aircraft and options for eight.

The Embraer 170 aircraft would replace the MD-80 fleet and ATR-72 turboprop aircraft which are being retired, according to the company.

The Embraer aircraft would be used in domestic and European traffic on routes and frequencies where demand is better met by an aircraft smaller than the Airbus A320s in Finnair's fleet, the company added.

The value of the firm order was valued at USD320m on the basis of the manufacturer`s listed price.

The ordered aircraft would be delivered between September 2005 and May 2007.
