A Korean Air aircraft was forced to return to Australia's Sydney airport today (1 July) as authorities had failed to complete explosives checks on passenger luggage.

The aircraft - carrying 288 passengers - was almost four hours into its flight to Seoul, South Korea, when security officials realised that they had failed to examine check-in luggage of a man who returned a positive result in a chemical explosives test, but who was cleared to fly.

On return to Sydney the man's baggage underwent further security checks and nothing suspicious was discovered, reported Reuters.
