A Russian man suspected of killing an air traffic controller blamed for a mid-air collision over Germany on 1 July 2002 has been placed in a psychiatric clinic.

The 48-year-old - who lost his wife, son and daughter in the crash between a Bashkirian Airlines aircraft and a DHL cargo aircraft - was arrested in connection with the stabbing of the 36-year-old Danish citizen. The man was stabbed to death in front of his wife on 25 February, when a man arrived at the couple's home and spoke briefly to the controller in broken German before stabbing him and fleeing on foot.

The man has now been moved from prison to psychiatric clinic on the basis of a psychiatric examination last week, reported The Associated Press.
