Industry and government figures show that on-time performance by major US airlines continues to decline.

The number of airline passengers still remains far below the record years of 1999 and 2000, however flight operations and delays have been going up steadily. At Chicago's O'Hare Airport delays are up 28% in the past year. On-time performance also lagged by 5% at Detroit and Los Angeles in January compared to the same month last year, and 7% at Miami, 6% at Boston, 8% at Dallas-Fort Worth and 11% at New York's LaGuardia Airport.

The most frequently delayed flight in January was Alaska Airlines 211 from Los Angeles to Seattle, which was behind schedule nearly 94% of the time, while Hawaiian Airlines had the highest on-time arrival rate at 87%, Reuters reported.
