An American Eagle aircraft reportedly blew a tyre on landing at San Juan's main airport on Sunday (9 May).

The Super ATR turboprop aircraft was carrying 22 passengers and four crew members from the Puerto Rican city of Mayaguez. However, on arrival at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport a tyre blew causing the aircraft to skid off the runway. The aircraft stopped on its left side in a wooded area, after sustaining heavy damage to one wing which struck the runway.

At least 13 people were injured in the incident. They were taken to local hospitals and were listed as being in stable condition. Others who received cuts and bruises were treated at the scene.
