Congress has warned that an expected increase in US air travel this summer could cause long security lines at some of the busiest US airports.

Cutbacks in passenger and baggage screeners are expected to further lengthen security lines during the busy summer season. However, the Transportation Security Administration is said to be preparing for a busy summer and has singled out 25 airports for extra attention. The agency is planning to deploy its mobile screening force to help at airports handling higher-than-normal levels of passengers or special events, and is also working to get newly hired baggage and passenger screeners through training and into place at airports where there are staffing gaps.

The summer season is expected to be the busiest for airlines since the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks, with airlines projected to carry 65m passengers during each summer month, Reuters reported.
