US lawmakers have said that the government must move faster to develop high-tech ID cards that could prevent terrorist attacks on aircraft.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is experimenting with biometric identification systems, to prevent armed terrorists from boarding an aircraft while posing as airport workers or law officers. However, the chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee said the agency needs to hasten the pace as terrorists are interested in gaining access to restricted airport areas.

The agency is said to be working on a project to develop biometric identification cards for 2m transportation workers at US airports, seaports and rail yards, reported The Associated Press.
