Three people were detained at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport in Suriname this week for attempting to smuggle cocaine.

A 68-year-old man and two women, aged 60 and 67, reportedly attempted to board a flight to the Netherlands after swallowing small balloons filled with cocaine. The three people - believed to be travelling together - were detained after being taken aside for questioning during a random police search of passengers.

It is currently unclear how much cocaine the three had in their possession. Charges have yet to be filed against them, The Associated Press reported.
