The UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is to look into the financial protection offered to passengers from the airline industry following a government announcement that it would undertake a detailed look at advice submitted by the CAA in July 2004.

The CAA and the Department of Transport will undertake a joint investigation into whether other options can be considered for protecting passengers' financial interests when they book tickets and will include recommendations from both the aviation industry and consumer groups.

The Department of Transport said that it will be looking to improve the quality of information provided to passengers booking flights, especially over the Internet, reports Air & Business Travel News.
