US aircraft manufacturer Boeing has predicted that by 2023 China will be the world's second biggest commercial aviation market with a 2,800-strong fleet of aircraft.
Boeing said that China's airlines will need to spend USD183bn and buy some 2,300 new aircraft. The announcement was made at the start of the Fifth China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition which has delegates from 32 countries and regions around the world.
A spokesperson for Boeing said that passenger demand will drive the Chinese market and lead to airlines requiring longer-range, more efficient aircraft and that China's aviation industry will outpace the growth of the rest of the economy, reports AFP.
