Two flight slots Long Beach Airport abandoned by American Airlines are set to be taken over by the low-cost carrier JetBlue.

The airline has not yet announced what destinations will be covered by the two slots. A spokesperson for JetBlue said that if American Airlines turns them over it will use them within the time required.

American Airlines abandoned the slots in an attempt to cut costs and redeploy its aircraft to its more valuable hubs. A spokesperson for Long Beach Airport said that it intends to reclaim and redistribute the slots as long as American Airlines does not go back on its decision, reports the Long Beach Press Telegram.

Last week JetBlue announced a 71% drop in profits due to higher fuel costs and several hurricanes during the summer.
