Hong Kong-based carrier Cathay Pacific Airways has announced that its passenger traffic for October 2004 increased by 14.7% over October 2003.

The airline said that it carried 1.17m passengers in October 2004, up from 1.09m in the same period 12 months ago. A spokesperson for Cathay Pacific said that on average the airline's first and business classes were two-thirds full for the month, giving it a strong revenue, yet the airline's margins have been squeezed by fuel costs.

Load factor for October 2004 was up to 77.6% compared to 75.2% in October 2003 and Cathay Pacific's cargo diversion reported an increase in cargo carried from 83,687 tonnes in October 2003 to 90,533 tonnes in October 2004, reports Reuters.
