Ticket agents working for US Airways and belonging to the Communications Workers of America (CWA) union have called for strike action over ongoing labour and pay talks.
The union's 6,000 members voted on proposed strike action at the start of November 2004, with 86% supporting the motion. Despite the vote both the CWA and US Airways said that talks were ongoing and progress was being made. The airline wants the union to agree a new deal which would cut pay and save the airline USD130m a year.
A spokesperson for the CWA in Charlotte, North Carolina said that the two parties are closer than ever to a deal. US Airways entered bankruptcy protection in the summer of 2004, reports The Charlotte Observer.
