Alitalia announces third quarter loss

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Italian national carrier Alitalia has reported an operating loss of EUR13.6m for the third quarter of 2004, an improvement over the same period in 2003.
The struggling carrier, which is in the midst of a major reorganisation, did not report a net income figure in its third quarter statement. The airline reported a slight dip in revenue for the third quarter 2004 to EUR1.12bn from EUR1.16bn in the corresponding period in 2003.
Alitalia said that it was still seeking one or more capital increases of as much as EUR1.2bn at shareholder meetings scheduled for December 2004 as it looks to restructure and save itself from liquidation, reports The Associated Press.
