Low cost airline Flyi, which operates the Independence Air brand, has said that it has struck a deal with aircraft manufacturer Airbus to delay the purchase of 10 aircraft due for delivery in 2005.

The financially troubled group, which is looking to save money after announcing heavy losses, said that it will now take delivery of the aircraft in 2007. Shares in the company jumped by 54% when news of the deal was announced on 15 November 2004 as the company looked to be heading for bankruptcy.

The Washington-based airline has blamed unexpected record high fuel prices and intense competition from bigger airlines for its losses, reports The Associated Press.
