Singapore Airlines is to become the first Southeast Asian carrier to offer direct flights to Cape Town, South Africa with the launch of a new non-stop flight.

The new service will begin on 3 November 2004 and is replacing one of the airline's three times a week flights to the city via Johannesburg, cutting two hours off the flight time. The flight will use Boeing 777ER aircraft.

A spokesperson for Singapore Airlines said that the new service will increase the airline's capacity to South Africa and allow business and tourism links between South Africa and Singapore to grow, reports AFP.
