Spanair to cancel 262 flights due to strikes

Scandinavian airline group SAS's Spanish carrier Spanair has been forced to cancel 262 flight due to a series of pilots' strikes planned for the week ending 28 November 2004.
A spokesperson for the airline said that in principle Spanair will cancel 88 flights on 23 November 2004, 86 on 24 November 2004 and 88 on the 25 November 2004. Half of Spanair's internal mainland Spain flights will be cancelled but flights to the Balearic and Canary Islands would be unaffected.
Spanair pilots staged the first of 14 planned one-day strikes earlier in November 2004 and the pilots' union Sepla said that 90% of the airline professional staff joined the strike, reports Reuters.
