Airbus delivers its 1,000th aircraft to the US

French aircraft manufacturer Airbus delivered its 1,000th aircraft to the US when it handed over a new A330-200 aircraft to Northwest Airlines in a ceremony at the aerospace company's base in Toulouse, France.

Northwest Airlines has the biggest fleet of Airbus aircraft in the US, operating six A330-200s, eight A330-300s and 148 A320 family aircraft. Airbus made its first US sale in 1977 to Eastern Airlines and has since sold aircraft to many US low-cost carriers and full service carriers such as United Airlines and US Airways.

Airbus sold its 5,000th aircraft in September 2004, 30 years after its first aircraft went into service with Air France, reports icLiverpool.
