Australia's Regional Express Airlines (Rex) has secured the use of a lucrative gate at Sydney Airport after months of speculation over the carrier's future at the airport.

Rex signed a five-year lease with the airport which will see it continue using facilities at terminal two until a new gate containing a Rex lounge is completed in March 2005. The airline's lease also includes a five-year option on the facilities.

Sydney Airport Corporation said that the new deal gives the airline a greater level of certainty at the airport while a spokesperson for Rex said that the deal secures the long-term future of regional flights in Australia, reports ABC.
