The Danish government has announced that it might scrap the per-passenger airport tax placed on airlines that operate to and from Copenhagen Airport.

The coalition government's liberal spokesperson said at an air traffic conference that there is no single reason to keep the tax and it should be abolished immediately. Denmark's traffic minister Flemming Hansen also told the conference that the conservative side of the government would not stand in the way of getting rid of the tax.

The DKK75 per passenger tax has had a detrimental effect on Copenhagen Airport with UK low-cost carrier easyJet cutting its services to the airport. Other European Union airlines have also complained about the high fees at the airport, reports Reuters.
