Indian low-cost airline Air Sahara has announced that it is to open an international hub in Hyderabad, in the Andhra Pradesh region of India, making the city its home base for all domestic and international flights.

The USD20m investment in the city's airport was announced by the airline's president Ronojoy Dutta and the Chief Minister for the Andhra Pradesh region Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Air Sahara will be operating 140 flights from the city by February 2005, up from 28 at present.

Dutta said that passengers would enjoy low fares and better flight times and likened the new hub to a 'highway in the sky' while Reddy said that the region's government had made a conscious decision to attract airlines and make Hyderabad a hub by cutting aviation fuel taxes and giving major fuel concessions to airlines, reports Indo-Asian News Service.
