British Airways announces 23% increase in second quarter profits

The UK's national carrier British Airways has announced that its second quarter profits rose by 23% due to tighter cost controls and increased passenger numbers.

The airline said that profit for the three months ending September 2004 was up to GBP240m from GBP195m in the same period in 2003. The result beat analysts' predictions of GBP210m, reports Reuters.
