Singapore Airlines and its subsidiary carrier have increased their fuel surcharge for the third time since June 2004 due to high fuel costs.

The airline said that the fuel price had risen by 37% since it introduced its first surcharge in June 2004 and that it had no choice but to pass the increase on to passengers to offset the extra costs. Singapore Airlines will raise its charge for flights to most Southeast Asian destinations from USD7 to USD12 and from USD12 to USD22 on most other routes.

The carrier's subsidiary Silk Air will raise its fuel surcharges from USD7 to USD17 on travel to Southeast Asian cities and from USD12 to USD22 on flights to China, Macau and India, reports The Associated Press.
