Stun gun maker Taser has announced that it has received US government approval to have its products used on commercial airline flights for the first time.

The Transportation Security Administration has approved an application made by an unnamed major international airline to have Taser products onboard some of its commercial passenger flights to help protect against criminal or terrorist activity.

A spokesperson for Arizona-based Taser International said that it had received an order for its products from a major airline and that this was the first approval to allow personnel to use its weapons, reports Reuters.
