Austrian Airlines has announced that it is to start a new service between Mumbai, India and Vienna, Austria from May 2005 and would also be adding two more flights to Delhi, India from Vienna.

The airline said that a strong load factor on its Delhi route and the new open sky policy means that the airline is ready to stake a major claim in the Indian market. Austrian Airlines' CEO Vagn Soerensen said that he expects the airline to be running daily flights between Mumbai and Vienna by winter 2005-2006 after recording an 80% load factor on its Delhi-Vienna route.

The new Mumbai route will be operated five times each week by Boeing 767 aircraft with the additional Delhi routes which will begin in January 2005 operated by Airbus A330 or A340 aircraft, reports PTI.
