Iran Air Tour Company has received approval from the Iranian President Mohammad Khatami to buy 22 McDonnell Douglas aircraft from China worth USD361m.

President Khatami's decision to allow the purchase should now see Iran Air Tour receive the approval of the environment, transportation, planning and finance ministries within the 12 months that the approval lasts. The purchase of the MD90 medium-size aircraft will be used to improve Iran Air Tour's current fleet.

The Iranian Ministry of Road and Transportation is also thought to be interested in buying aircraft from Airbus, Boeing, Tupolev and Fokker, reports al-Jazeera.
