The chairman of Malaysia Airlines has rejected claims that the carrier's introduction of low-cost 'super saver' fares on some of its domestic routes will lead to bigger losses for the company.

Datuk Dr Munir Majid said that the 'super saver' fares covered only 7% of the airline's domestic and regional network and that the fares would enhance the airline's competitiveness within a depressed domestic market.

When asked about the full service airline's possible partnership with low-cost rival AirAsia Munir said that any cooperation would be on commercial matters and that it was also considering taking on some of AirAsia's excess pilots on a secondment basis along with pilots from its own academy, reports Bernama.
