Florida National Guard troops are set to be deployed to airports across the state amid fears that terrorists might try to disrupt the US presidential election on 2 November 2004.

National Guard officials in Florida said that they did have plans to dispatch several hundred troops to airports in the state but had received no threats specific to Florida. The last time National Guard troops patrolled Florida's airports was after the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001.

It is unknown whether other states have similar plans to dispatch troops to airports and the Pentagon said that it had no knowledge of Florida's plan. Currently airport security in Florida is handled by the Transportation Security Administration, reports The Associated Press.
